Lab-Grown Diamonds

Now for the first time in human history, there is a choice for your diamond – mined or a lab-grown, both being real diamonds. From my point of view, lab-grown diamonds provide a tremendous value. They are not only origin-guaranteed, conflict and human-abuse free, ecologically and environmentally sustainable, but they’re also a triumph of human innovation. For consumers today, definitely a sustainable choice.”-- Designer Reena Ahluwalia, Nurture By Reena

“Lab-grown diamonds are the way forward for the diamond industry. NURTURED FOR YOU
By definition, a diamond is carbon crystallized in isotropic 3D form. While the technology has been around for decades, producing gem-quality lab-grown diamonds has only been possible for a few years. Lab-grown diamonds are identical to mined diamond, except for their point of origin and price. Both have the identical physical, chemical and optical properties. Just like in nature, each lab-grown diamond is totally unique and is grown atom-by-atom, layer-by-layer, recreating nature’s process.

SUSTAINABLE
“A society is defined not only by what it creates but by what it refuses to destroy.” – John Sawhill, former CEO of The Nature Conservancy. By using only lab-grown diamonds that are produced in a controlled environment, Nurture by Reena offers a more environmentally responsible choice for ecologically conscious consumers with a deep respect for the environment.

BEAUTY AND QUALITY
Meticulously handpicked, Nurture by Reena proudly features exquisite lab-grown diamonds certified by leading gemological institutes and selected because of their extraordinary beauty, high quality, purity and rarity.

RESPONSIBLE
Consumers who aspire to make socially responsible purchasing decisions have legitimate concerns related to the origins of their diamonds. Because Nurture by Reena features lab-grown diamonds, the origin of the diamonds on each piece are guaranteed and fully disclosed as lab-created. In addition, Nurture By Reena operates at the highest level of safety standards and fair, humane and ethical labor practices.

Lab grown Diamond Vs Mined Diamond.jpg

Both earth-mined and lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds.

The only difference is the point of origin - mined diamonds are extracted from within earth, whereas, lab-grown diamonds are grown above earth in diamond growing greenhouses in a controlled environment with sustainable conditions. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Environmental Impact Analysis – Production of Rough Diamonds based on a study comparing the environmental impact of grown diamonds and mined diamonds, depicts that growing diamonds cause significantly less environmental impact as compared to mining diamonds. There are several aspects of environmental impact such as air pollution, water usage, energy usage, etc. There is also a significant level of human impact as well in the process of diamond production.

Lab-grown diamonds cost anywhere between 25-40% less as compared to their earth-mined counterparts.

Both lab-grown diamonds and earth-mined diamonds have identical physical, chemical and optical properties and both emerge as rough diamonds. Both have identical crystalline structure, reflective index, dispersion, hardness and density. Both are polished using the same equipment and techniques and have the same brilliance, sparkle, fire and scintillation. Since lab-grown diamonds are real and pure carbon diamonds, they are indistinguishable from earth-mined diamonds with the naked eye, microscope and jeweler's magnifying glass loop. So just like earth-mined diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are certified for authenticity and are accompanied by Diamond Grading Reports from leading and recognized independent certifying laboratories.

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, they are not artificial or synthetic and should never be confused with simulants, such as cubic zirconia (CZ), Moissanite, white sapphire, YAG etc.

Nurture By Reena colorless diamonds are certified as Type IIa, the purest type of diamond. Type IIa diamonds are extremely rare in nature, less than 2% of the world’s diamonds are Type IIa.

They contain either very little or no nitrogen atoms in the crystal structure. In the world of mined diamonds, Type IIa are so rare that they command a 5% to 15% premium, when they can be found. A renowned example is the “Elizabeth Taylor Diamond,” formerly known as the “Krupp Diamond,” a 33.19-carat Type IIa diamond.  Other iconic historic Type IIa diamonds include the Koh-I-Noor, Darya-I-Noor, the Archduke Joseph, the Regent, the Agra, The Star of the South, The Winston legacy and the Beau Sancy. Type IIa diamonds also have a famous historic connection with Golconda diamonds mined from the historic Kingdom of Golconda in India.
